Dear Ms. Torstensson,
what are the right products for the right shops - this is an increasingly important question for many outdoor product suppliers, who in the meantime now offer their products via a whole series of various sales channels. “Selective Distribution“ is the magic word here, which covers a multitude of varied sales policies. Also in today’s newsletter: this year OutDoor is not only looking to the future, as we usually do, we are also casting a glance at the past years. And that is no wonder, for 2013 is the 20-year anniversary of OutDoor at Messe Friedrichshafen. On the other hand, our “OutDoor Conferences“ have a keen focus on the future: so look forward to workshops that will illustrate the prospects outdoor articles have in the modern business world.
Best regards,
Your OutDoor Team

“SELECTIVE DISTRIBUTION” – FOOD FOR THOUGHT FOR THE FUTURE OF SALES TECHNIQUES
Long gone are the days when outdoor products were only for the specialists in the outdoor retail trade. For some time now the brand names have been selling to departments stores and sports shops, something which is now taken for granted. However, in the past few years these parallel sales channels have become more complicated. Fashion and shoe shops have also jumped on the outdoor bandwagon – and the Internet shops in any case. The various business concepts have different requirements, depending on the quality of advice, customer and price structure. The panel discussion at the OutDoor Conference on the past, present and future of outdoor trade with the industry’s top decision-makers will be dealing with this topic on Friday, 12 July at 8.00 a.m. in the Conference Centre Foyer East, Room Berlin.

BACK TO THE FUTURE: 20 YEARS’ OUTDOOR
OutDoor is of course always focused on the challenges the future has in store, but the 20th anniversary is reason enough to take a look at the last two decades. During this year’s OutDoor we will have a special exhibition on the upper floor of the East Foyer: equipment and clothing from 20 years of OutDoor. On the stage of the OutDoor Fashion Show there will also be a special retrospective of “historical“ outfits which, depending on your point of view and taste, were either “cult” or a “major fashion mistake”. From the beginning of July there will also be a small photo and video restrospective on "days gone-by" available on the Outdoor website.

OUTDOOR CONFERENCES
During this year’s OutDoor the focus in the Conference Centre Foyer East is on an exchange of information. At the “OutDoor Conferences 2013“ international experts will be taking a position on various current topics and developments in presentations, workshops and panel discussions. On Friday and Saturday you have the opportunity of starting your Show day with an exciting and informative “Early Morning Workshop“ at 8.00 a.m. with a breakfast sponsored by OutDoor. The topics this year include a panel discussion on the past, present and future of the outdoor specialist trade (Friday, 8.00 a.m., Room Berlin) and also the EOG work group “Sustainability“ on the topic of “Water-repellent materials“ (Saturday, 8.00 a.m., Room Berlin/Paris).
